Focused on functional simplicity, we replaced nested menus with intuitive, flat iconography and generous white space. This mobile-first approach eliminates 1.0-era friction, transforming the app into a fast, responsive tool that feels as organized as a freshly stocked aisle.
Transitioning to a flat design isn't just a facelift; it’s a conversion strategy. By implementing delayed registration, we allowed first-time shoppers to build carts before committing to an account, increasing conversion over 20%.
Our party planning innovation for Albertsons centered on solving the Party Equation, (food + drinks + sweets = Party), by addressing the two primary pain points.
1) Lack of time 2) Fear of running out of food
Research revealed that customers were overwhelmed by the logistics of hosting. We replaced this manual guesswork with a predictive engine that utilized three key inputs (party type, guest count, and date) to calculate and provide the precise quantities needed for a successful event.
By shifting from a traditional search-based interface to a logic-driven recommendation engine, we transformed the UX into a guided "party-in-a-box" experience. This innovation didn't just save users time; it built psychological confidence by ensuring they would never face the "not enough food" nightmare. For Albertsons, this meant higher basket completion rates and increased loyalty, proving that when you solve a customer's logistical anxiety, you secure their business as a trusted hosting partner.
Our test group of 15 stores in Southern California resulted in customers bypassing the the key inputs, invalidating the hypothesis. With this discovery, we pivoted to more traditional "Combo" and discount offerings.
